Veterinary Ireland calls for return of humanity and civilisation to Palestine and Israel

9th September 2025

Veterinary Ireland, the representative body for veterinary practitioners in Ireland, has called for the return of humanity and civilisation to Palestine and Israel.

Veterinary Ireland is calling for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel.

Veterinary Ireland is calling for full and unhindered access to humanitarian relief and notes with despair the destruction of agricultural and veterinary systems in Gaza.

Veterinary professionals are guided by their ethical commitment to protect life in all forms - human, animal, and environmental.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in the near total collapse of all veterinary and agricultural systems, and has resulted in a One Health catastrophe, for the people, animals and environmental systems in Gaza.

Veterinary Ireland President, Jane Pigott, noted that “the current situation in Gaza constitutes a One Health crisis of which the long-term consequences for human health, animal health, food systems, and public health capacity in the region are almost unfathomable”.

Veterinary Ireland therefore calls for an immediate and sustained ceasefire to allow for unhindered humanitarian access and restoration of essential services across Palestine.
